Why Teaching?

I got into my field of art because it is the only subject I love still to this day. It is completely appealing to me in every way. I love learning about art, creating it, and talking about it. Teaching this subject is interesting to me because I love kids. Also, I had so many positive experiences with my art teachers through out the years that I always wanted to be like them. I had one teacher specifically, my high school art teacher, that really inspired me. She completely got me more involved in the art world. I had no idea what I was missing until she took me to my first art gallery in Chelsea, New York. The buildings were just filled with galleries and I saw all different types of art work and mediums. I had no idea there were so many different types! I want to share what I have learned thus far and learn even more. I just want to share what is out there and show my students that art isn't just about crayons/markers and paper. There is so much more to it. There's ceramics, acrylic, oil, water color paints, sculpture, jewelry, metalwork, 2-d, 3-d, collaging, photography, drawing, illustration, graphic design, advertising, architecture, and so much more to learn about. The art world is always changing too so it's exciting to have to keep up and to learn about new ideas and ways to create things. I want to be as inspiring as my teachers were. I want to encourage my students to be themselves and make what they want, not what is expected of them. Art is one of those subjects that you could really be yourself and put yourself into your pieces. I want to forever instill that into my students and show them that being their own person and not just what everyone expects is important.
